The neighborhood
Sunny Isles Beach is narrow enough that nearly everything revolves around Collins Avenue, yet its restaurant scene covers several very different kinds of evenings.
You can book a formal oceanfront dinner, sit down for neighborhood Italian, order sushi a few blocks from the beach, stop for charcoal-grilled kebabs or begin with dinner and stay for music late into the night.
That variety is also why there is no useful single answer to "what is the best restaurant in Sunny Isles?" The better question is what kind of evening you are planning.

This is not a numerical ranking. A restaurant that works for an anniversary dinner is not necessarily where you want lunch after the beach, and a traditional steakhouse does not solve the same problem as dinner with live music afterward.

Porterhouse makes sense when dinner is only the beginning of the evening. It starts as a steak-focused restaurant with a full dinner service, but the identity changes as the night moves on.
On Friday and Saturday, the restaurant schedules live singers during dinner and DJs later in the evening, with the lounge continuing until early morning. That makes Porterhouse different from a conventional steakhouse: you do not necessarily need to decide where to go after dinner.
For a group celebrating a birthday, meeting friends, having cocktails after dinner or simply wanting an evening that does not end with dessert, it is one of the more distinctive formats in Sunny Isles.
When we'd choose it
Choose Porterhouse when your priority is not simply "the best steak." Choose it when you want one address to carry a larger portion of the evening.
The dinner service runs until midnight. The bar and lounge continue later, with extended weekend hours.
That also makes it useful when you are hosting friends or visitors and do not want to plan three separate venues for dinner, cocktails and music.

Il Mulino is the more traditional special-occasion choice in this guide. The Sunny Isles location brings the New York Italian restaurant to an oceanfront setting inside Acqualina, with both indoor and terrace dining.
It serves lunch and dinner daily, which also makes it more useful than many formal restaurants if you are arranging a business lunch or an earlier afternoon meal rather than an evening reservation.
This is where we would look for a polished Italian dinner, a client meal, anniversary or an occasion where the setting and service matter as much as what happens after dinner.
Best for: special occasions, Italian, business lunch, couples and hotel guests.
Greek · Seafood

Avra takes the evening in a different direction: Greek and Mediterranean cooking with seafood at the center of the concept.
The restaurant is part of the Acqualina dining collection and operates in an indoor-outdoor setting near the ocean.
If one person in the group wants a formal evening but another does not want another heavy steakhouse meal, Avra is an obvious alternative.
Best for: seafood, Greek-Mediterranean cuisine, special occasions and dinner near Acqualina.
The neighborhood institution

Timo has been part of Sunny Isles since 2003, which is meaningful in an area where restaurants and hotels change names regularly.
Chef Tim Andriola's menu is Italian-Mediterranean and changes seasonally, while the restaurant deliberately maintains the feel of a neighborhood dining room rather than a hotel restaurant.
It works especially well when you want a proper dinner without turning the night into an event.
Best for: neighborhood Italian, couples, quiet dinner and returning local guests.

H2O describes itself as an Italian restaurant with cross-cultural Mediterranean influences. It is smaller and more relaxed than the large resort dining rooms further south on Collins Avenue.
That makes it useful for families or visitors looking for Italian food without making dinner the central production of the entire evening.
Best for: Italian, family dinner and a quieter local option.
Japanese & Thai

Family-owned and operated, Tako serves both Japanese and Thai food. It is the straightforward neighborhood choice for sushi, rolls and Thai dishes without the atmosphere or pricing structure of a resort restaurant.

Rice Asian House has served Sunny Isles since 2008 and combines sushi with a substantial Thai menu. It is another practical local restaurant rather than a destination dining room.
Best for: sushi, Thai food, delivery and casual dinner.
Neither restaurant needs to pretend to be a Miami Beach omakase destination. Their value is exactly the opposite: they are reliable neighborhood choices when you want sushi five minutes from your building.

Mangal centers the menu around charcoal grilling: shawarma, kebabs and Mediterranean plates cooked over live coals.
This is one of the easiest restaurants in the guide to use spontaneously. It works for lunch, an uncomplicated family dinner or takeout after a day at the beach.
Best for: kebabs, shawarma, casual lunch and family meals.
Azerbaijani · International

Sunny Isles has always had a more international dining identity than many Miami neighborhoods, and Baku Cafe is a good example.
The restaurant draws on Azerbaijani cooking, with grilled meats and Caucasus influences, and operates from morning through late evening.
It is particularly useful for groups who want something outside the predictable Italian-steak-sushi rotation.

Casual · Beach Day

Not every meal in Sunny Isles needs a reservation. La Sandwicherie brings the long-running Miami French sandwich-bar concept to Collins Avenue and fills the gap between "restaurant dinner" and simply needing something good to eat.
Sandwiches, salads and a casual format make it particularly useful before or after the beach, for lunch or when a formal dining room is exactly what you do not want.
Best for: breakfast, lunch, casual food, takeout and beach days.
The point
One of the mistakes visitors make in South Florida is treating every meal as another reservation to research.
If you already have Il Mulino or Avra booked for dinner, there is nothing wrong with keeping lunch simple. A useful neighborhood guide should tell you where to celebrate and where simply to eat.
By occasion
Going out for the evening
If dinner is the only stop, transportation is simple. If the evening includes a hotel pickup, restaurant, drinks somewhere else and a return later that night, the logistics become part of the plan.
